An entry in the diary of a BIMite……

Dear Diary,

March 19, 2007…another day in the life of a BIMite…I have been in BIM for almost a year now. And though an MBA leaves one with quite some novelties, this is quite what my day goes like..“Trrrringgggggggg” goes my alarm..the one set on my table…followed by “TTTRRRRIIIIIIINNNNNNNGGGGG”, the one my mobile, which is very close to my dozing head, and startles me out of my dream of George Clooney. “Its eight o clock, time to get up,” buzzes my roommate’s mobile..which I curse at…  “Shut it Up…!! #@&%*”, I mutter…But the dratted thing goes, “Its time to get up..its time to get up…”Cursing to myself, I drag myself out of bed and woozily look around. I see my other roommates making a beeline for the bathroom and curse to myself again. The four of us always have arguments over the bathroom, and to avoid it, set times for sharing it. But inevitably, we all end up running for it at the same time.Pulling on some clothes, I run to the mess, and grab a couple of slices of toast and gulp down some coffee, all the while looking at the big clock that ticks away at the mess. I have a few minutes to make it to the first lecture, which I just cannot miss. I look around for someone who is headed towards class, as I need a lift to class. I spy another ‘late lateef’ like me also rush out and decide to latch onto him.”Waiiitttttttttt”, I yell, and do a Keanu Reeves type maneuver to jump onto his bike. And off we go.I make it just in time to class, and realize its Finance. And I glance down in dismay, as I have brought my HRM notebook and not Finance. “****”, I mutter. And so I sink back into the last seat and into slumber. As the classes go on, “Ms. XXXX,” the voice of the professor shakes me out of the reverie. “What are the new 4 C’s of marketing ?” “Uhhhhh…” I fumble. “See ma, if you don’t know, don’t worry…but you need to study or you won’t get placement.. But don’t worry, Main Hoon Na…!!!” This is followed by a Research class. Now this is something I look forward to as it involves practicals. But the professor waddles in and announces, “ I have 30 years of work experience in the industry. And there was one thing I learnt..that you should not study Research. It is not needed. It is just for theory. This will not help you in work. The only thing that will is flattering your boss. So mark my words, this is useless. With that, let’s begin the class….”After a long day of classes, I return to the mess, looking forward to a meal to replenish my starving self resources of energy. As I walk in, the transformation from lecture – hall  – me to mess – me happens, as I am greeted by “ Saali, chal khana khane” and “ Babe, class sucked !” I heave rotis and curry into my plate and sink into my habitual table. As people chatter and eat around me, making plans for the rest of the evening, I reflect, on the day that was.

mile sur

One could barely think over the  gaggle of voices that could be heard here on the first day of college, and that can still be heard everyday. And to add to this, you have over five to six languages flowing in every direction at any given point of time.  While one voice yells, “Oye Saale, yeh book kahan rakhi hai tune ?”, ( Where have you kept that book ? ) another responds, “Mala Maahit Naaii” ( I don’t know ). Another calls out, “ Coffee kudika variya ?” ( Coming for coffee ? )and another replies, “ Aami assignment kor chee” ( I am doing an assignment ). “Tussi sonn kadon jaa rahe ho?” ( When are you going to sleep ?), calls out one voice to which bang come the reply, “Naenu paado susikaen undanu…dhanivala, upudu odho” ( Am watching a movie, not now).

The differences in the spoken language often leads to a lot of confusion and a lot more swearing ( specially in languages that the other cannot understand ) but what surpasses these disparities is a sense of unity and belonging. If two people were to exchange blows over something the previous day, you’d find the same pair sharing a Amul Cool at Om Shree the next day.  The students at BIM come together from all over the country, from varied disciplines and varied backgrounds. We often find engineers and chartered accountants wrestling over a small issue in say, Financial Accounting, where the engineers insist that the Balance Sheet does not adhere to logic, and some even discover new ways of presenting a Balance Sheet, for example, like in a flow chart, and the commerce graduates faint in exasperation.

Festivals at BIM are a grand affair, a time to lay down all differences and celebrate the spirit that is BIM. Be it Holi, or Diwali or Onam, or Christmas, we all dress up to the hilt and do the traditional jing-bang  that accompanies each festival here. This Holi, we celebrated a little differently..we played Holi in the night and it went on way till the clock struck twelve. Each festival sees us joyous and hopeful, and yeah….really really satiated with the delicious food prepared here in full spirit in the mess.  Here s BIM for you, BreakI ntoMasti…that is BIM.Here are a few snapshots of our moments at various points…keep watching.

“……Latitude 10.50 degree north and longitude of 78.46 degree east….” “What the **** is that ?”, you ask…well, that is quite where we are as we write this- Bharathidasan Institute of Management, Trichy. And that quite, is the purpose of this post..to give you a glimpse of what goes on here.

Ever wondered what its like to sit in a little campus, in a little town, called Trichy ? Well, here we are, in BIM, which happens to be just that. If you thought you’d be bored out of your wits, you could not be more wrong….. When we first came here, we were a bunch of scared individuals, awed by the thought doing an MBA…but now, after a eventful journey of eight months together, it’s a home away from home with a family away from family. Great friends, great times and lots of learning ( and not just academically …)

That is BIM- which we are going to expand it a little differently. B-Be

M- Magic…that is BIM.

Here is a snapshot of the masti, with lots more to come. There will be daily updates. Keep visiting….!
